What do women want? Part I

As i see i give

They say that Sigmund Freud (1925) after 30 years of studying the most beautiful work of creation, fell into a deep depression because he, like me and probably you, kind Reader, ended up not understanding it and, I imagine him pulling his finger. hair, looking at the sky and asking, despite being an atheist: Lord, what do women want ?

A little history

Tomorrow, Monday, March 8, the International Women's Day is renewed , a day of reflection, recognition and hope. Doors and windows have to be opened, the house is ventilated and the woman comes to life, free and without prejudice. It is not easy to stop the inertia of 5,000 years of patriarchy, it weighs too much. The women's struggle to free themselves from such a long subordination is just beginning. At the end of the 18th century, some seeds of nonconformity emerged, mainly in France and England, where the rights of women were raised and it was criticized that the female mind is weakened by the imposition of false manners and a behavioral refinement that make women object of desireand superficiality, while contravening morality as a source of sin. Books written by talented men served as a guide to impose the role of women in society , to decide for her, to command what she can do and what not, but above all, to impose what her duties are, always subordinate to the family and to the husband.

The International Women's Day commemorates the first mass march (1908) 15,000 women in New York, according to sources of the time, to demand reduced hours working hours, better pay and voting rights! In the country of democracy, machismo prevails and the courage of women explodes.

Difference between sex, gender and person

We will make a parenthesis in order to try to clarify the terminology of some key words on the subject of feminist demand, which at present generate confusion. Sex should be understood as the biological and physiological characteristics that distinguish a woman from a man. It is a result of nature. Gender is a relationship between men and women, boys and girls, in a social system that defines patterns, symbols, history, culture and values that assign behaviors and opportunities, attributes that are learned and that determine what is expected, allowed and each one is valued and, of course, they can change.

On my own I add the meaning of person, which I will use later, which designates an individual of the human species, woman or man, conscious and rational, with the capacity to discern and respond to their own actions.

In practice, it can already be said that the terms sex and gender are used improperly in the non-specialist public, as synonyms and that the confusion has increased due to the growing appearance of a score of sex and gender identities, such as Trans, Trans, Trans, Transgender and Travesti, among others T.

This issue seems to continue to grow because many no longer even know what they are, since they still do not dimension other ways of "inhabiting their materiality". The fact is that diversity is a response to the gender that was imposed on them at birth and of course it will be the task, by extension, of a wide sector of feminism that will eventually sustain these and other unimaginable ways of expressing our existence that, at the end of the road, lead to an inclusive, egalitarian, free and non-judgmental society.

Feminism and the fight for equality

Like that or more clear.

But if you, dear reader, would like to delve into the libertarian struggles and expressions of feminism , take some time to read Simone de Beauvoir, Kate Millar, Betty Freeman, Angeles Mastretta, Iris Zavala, Florece Thomas and Carlo Frabetti, among many other thinkers. who support this movement.

For now, it is worth remembering Simone de Beauvoir (1949) when she wrote about the second sex: "you are not born a woman, you become one", an idea that is manufactured from the body and turns it into an artificial product. I say this, because most of the feminine attire , clothing, perfumes, jewelry, footwear and a myriad of accessories are subordinate to masculine taste, because it is men, the majority, who design and manufacture them for them, or not? Heck, almost everything that surrounds women , even the baby's nipples, are designed by men for women to use as instructed.

Also, as another evidence of subordination, Betty Freeman (2009) says that "femininity" is regulated and decided by advertising, fashion and trend magazines, as well as loads of self-help and stress-fighting books to counteract, without forgetting, your duties of washing, ironing, cooking, and babysitting. The women he says we are built by men.

In turn, Kate Millar (1970) observes that the power structure is entrenched in a patriarchy that makes the relations between man and woman, not personal but political, and that the real differences remain hidden and saturated with cultural factors. When to know the impact of that reality? It will be until there is the desired gender parity that eliminates the anatomical differences between men and women with their nefarious practices, beliefs, roles and social prescriptions.

Gender is a social product and sex is biological in nature. Why differentiate the treatment of a woman from a man? Do we treat a lioness differently from a lion? Of course not, we treat them with gender equality, that is, with the same respect, right? An example of unequal treatment: when opting for a job, women are disadvantaged by motherhood - they do not perform equally - argues the boss. Does motherhood make women naturally inferior? I consider that it makes it superior.

Well, abusing your kind reading, I wait for you tomorrow Monday to try to reach some conclusion in the 2nd part of this article on the women's movement.
